Mulholland Drive is a street and road in the eastern Santa Monica Mountains of Southern California. It is named after pioneering Los Angeles civil engineer William Mulholland. The western rural portion in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties is named Mulholland Highway. The road is featured in innumerable movies, songs, and novels. David Lynch, whose film Mulholland Drive is suffused with the atmosphere of the road, once said that one can feel "the history of Hollywood" on it.

The 21-mile long mostly two-lane, minor arterial road loosely follows the ridgeline of the eastern Santa Monica Mountains and the Hollywood Hills, connecting two sections of U.S. Route 101, and crossing Sepulveda Boulevard, Beverly Glen Boulevard, Coldwater Canyon, Laurel Canyon Boulevard, Nichols Canyon Road, and Outpost Drive.

The road offers spectacular view of the Los Angeles Basin, the San Fernando Valley, and the Hollywood Sign.

Mulholland Drive is home to some of the most exclusive and most expensive homes in the world. Many of these homes are set back from the road and offer outstanding views of downtown Los Angeles. Celebrities such as Jack Nicholson, Sylvester Stallone, Justin Timberlake, Eric Stoltz, Jessica Biel, Paris Hilton and Reese Witherspoon all live nearby.

Driving Mulholland Drive end to end. Then a brief journey into the heart of Encino.

HIKING / Santa Monica Mountains, Garapito, Bay Tree Trails Roads Less Traveled Off Mulholland

Mulholland Drive has long been a road to remember. "Fifty-five miles of scenic splendor" said its boosters when construction on the road began in 1924.
L.A.'s mountain highway has been featured in dozens of movie chase scenes. During the 1950s and '60s, it was a place to race and a place to park; some of the city's best-known "make-out" spots were Mulholland's scenic turnouts.
But Mulholland Drive is more than a link to the city's history; it appeals to today's traveler as well. The road offers a chance to explore the crests and canyons of the Santa Monica Mountains, from Universal City west to Leo Carrillo State Beach on the Ventura County line. En route are clear-day views of the San Fernando Valley to the north and Santa Monica Bay to the south. Motorists with an eye for architecture will gape at some of the amazing hillside haciendas, while geology buffs will find millions of years of mountain history revealed in the roadside cuts.
It's not all pretty, of course. Below many a "deadman's curve" are the rusting carcasses of abandoned autos. Litter mars the scenic turnouts, and has been dumped at the side of the road.

The Hollywood Sign hike is one of those iconic hikes that you need to do at least once. Not only will you hike to the Hollywood Sign, but you'll get some spectacular views of LA along the way.
When you’re planning your Hollywood Sign hike, I’d recommend doing it as early as possible. The hike gets very crowded. If you do go early, try to go on a day where there’s no marine layer (clouds).
The Hollywood Sign is on Mt Lee, which is on the edge (and within) Griffith Park. Griffith Park is LA’s version of Central Park in New York.
There are some steep sections on the hike, but thousands of people of all shapes and sizes hike to the Hollywood Sign, so you can too.
You actually hike up behind the Hollywood Sign. You get great views of most of LA and the big mountains to the east that separate LA from Palm Springs and the desert.

If you Google directions to the Hollywood Sign, you will be routed to the main part of Griffith Park, which is nowhere near the Hollywood Sign. That’s because the Hollywood Sign Trust worked with Google and Garmin to override any directions, bringing you miles away to a Hollywood Sign “viewing platform.” They did this because locals don’t like tourists walking through their neighborhood. Every trail in this guide is perfectly legal to hike on, all I ask is that you respect people’s private property.

Hike with Nick through Solstice Canyon up to nearly 1000' and an amazing Pacific Ocean view. On the way you'll visit the modern ruins of Malibu's oldest home...the 1865 Keller House. Before getting on the Sostomo trail you'll get the chance to explore the ruins of the Xanadu like Tropical Terrace where the Robertson's hired famed African-American architect Paul Williams to create their dream home. Exotic plants, hummingbirds, waterfalls, peculiar abandoned structures, and some of the freshest air in Southern California are all found on this hike!

Will Rogers has got to be one of the all time great American characters. Often called the “Cowboy Philosopher”, he kept America laughing through some of it’s toughest years. Will was a radio commentator, news-paper columnist, and motion picture star. In 1922 Will bought property above Sunset Blvd. and built a summer cottage. The family loved the place so much that Will had a proper ranch built and the family moved there in 1928. In 1944 after the death of Mrs. Rogers, the property became Will Rogers State Historic Park and is now a well loved tourist destination. The ranch has been perfectly maintained and is filled with all of the Rogers family original furnishings and memorabilia. It’s like stepping back into Will’s boots. What makes Huell’s tour so special, is that its given by Will’s last remaining child Jimmie Rogers. Jimmie grew up at the ranch and shares many wonderful memories of a home that was dearly loved by all. This program is now itself a part of California’s history because shortly after the interview was filmed, Jimmie Rogers passed away. From the ranch buildings to the polo fields that Will hosted many matches on, to the personal remembrances of his son, it’s a tour you won’t want to miss.

The park was constructed in 1912 and dedicated in 1915, becoming the first public park in Beverly Hills. It was called the Sunset Park until 1952, when it was renamed the Will Rogers Memorial Park in honor of Will Rogers, who served as the first Honorary Mayor of Beverly Hills from 1926 to 1928 and frequented the park often with his family. On May 18, 1957, a plaque was added to celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Beverly Hills Garden Club.

As explained on the plaque, it was rededicated in 1997, and renovated in 2005.

On April 7, 1998, singer George Michael was arrested for committing a "lewd act" by Marcelo Rodriguez, a plainclothes officer of the Beverly Hills Police Department, in the restrooms of the park. The singer parodied the arrest in his video of Outside, which led the police officer to sue him for US$10 million for "humiliation, mental anguish, emotional and physical distress" because of the video.

In September 2014, the fountain was renamed the Margaret J. Anderson Fountain, in honour of the first owner of the Beverly Hills Hotel.
Shaped like a triangle, the park is surrounded by West Sunset Boulevard, North Canon Drive and North Beverly Drive. It is next to the Beverly Hills Hotel.

The park includes a pond with fish and turtles, and a fountain in the middle. It also includes lawns, rose gardens, tall palm trees, a dragon tree, winding asphalt paths, and male and female restrooms. It also features two bronze plaques about the history of the park, and smaller plaque about the Beverly Hills Garden Club.
